You Are Not Still Sending Out that Generic Resume Are You?

The resume game has changed - have you?

First, let me say that if you are still sending out piles of resumes that all say the same thing....STOP!

Sending out a generic resume to multiple companies will get you close to nowhere.

Sometimes I tell people who are embarking on a new job search or changing careers to completely start over with their resumes. How long have you been editing and re-editing the same resume? Sometimes you need to stop painting over the paint and strip the wall entirely if you want the paint to stick. Same is true here. But, that is your decision to make.

Regardless of whether you start from scratch or modify an existing one, here is an exercise that will dramatically improve the relevance of your resume.

exercise:

1. Print out about 10 job descriptions that match what you want to do. Do not confine yourself to a certain geography just yet. All you want to do is to start familiarizing yourself with the language and the key words that seem to keep popping up in the descriptions.

2. Make a list of all of the words or qualifications that are consistent across the job descriptions. I worked with one client whose job descriptions almost all said "must be able to handle frequent interruptions" - this was important to know when she crafted her resume.

3. Now go through that list and circle all of the words or phrases that apply to you. Which of these qualities or qualifications do you possess?

4. Review your work history and see if you can begin weaving some of these words into your descriptions, skills, and abilities. Resume reviewers as a general rule will give your resume about a 10 second scan. These words are going to be key as they will capture the reviewers attention. Remember, they are looking for the closest match they can find and if they see the same words in your resume that they had in their job description, you might get a closer look.

This does not mean that you fabricate your resume and make it so dense with key words that it reads like their job description - it is more subtle than that - but you must tailor your resume to each job.

Now, take the job descriptions (if you have them) for the particular jobs to which you want to apply and tailor a resume to it. Only then should you send it out.

Artistic Tiling with Natural Slate

Every slate tile in the world is unique, due to the naturally occurring chaos which creeps into its appearance during formation. This gives the material a certain amount of power, and makes every installation a one of a kind experience.

When putting natural slate into a floor, countertop, or backsplash, it is important to lay the tiles out first, to get a sense of the overall picture that will be formed in the final installation. Each tile is a unique portrait that will have to be coordinated with all of the others, to develop a montage which is complimentary and fits the overall ambience you are trying to achieve.

Like laying out a giant puzzle, where you determine what the outcome will be, you should rearrange the tiles several times to get a feel for your different options. If you are lucky, your contractor will have had the foresight to order a couple of extra tiles. This will allow you to choose the absolute best, discarding any which you dont like, or which dont fit in with the overall scheme the rest of them create.

Often slate tiles which come from the same box will have come from the same quarry, and may have even been cut from the same original slab. If this occurs, you can lay them out sequentially, and try to recreate the original appearance of the stone as it lay within the mountain.

Other times the tiles within a box will be erratic, each one having different colors and patterns. In this case, it is important to balance the various stones, light against dark, subdued against wild, to create an effect which has a strong center.

When laying out slate it is also important to dampen the tiles. This will give you an idea of what they will look like once the stone has been sealed. The moisture from the water seeps into the stones pores, much like a sealer eventually will, bringing out a variety of colors and contrasts which were invisible before.

Once you have decided on the layout of your tiles, it is often helpful to label them with small numbers on the back or sides, to help with laying them out. Markings should be done in pencil, so that any stray markings or exposed edges can easily be washed clean. You should also be certain to make a note of how the sequence is supposed to be laid out, whether vertically, horizontally, backward, or forward.

It is helpful to have a contractor or installer that has an artistic eye when dealing with natural stone. When choosing to hire someone, you should try and get a look at their portfolio to see some of the work they have created. Since stone is such a unique medium, it is also often helpful to give your own feedback on installations, and to try and incorporate your own vision into the project.

The Rules Of Golf

A game of putting a small ball in a hole in the ground using clubs was played in 17th century Netherlands. The word golf derives from the Dutch kolf meaning stick, club or bat. The course that emerged featured eleven holes lay out end to end from the clubhouse to the far end of the property. Every player then plays his second shot from within a club length of where the best ball has come to rest, and the procedure is repeated until the hole is finished.

Course

On some courses, walking is prohibited, and the cart fee is often included with the greens fee. The greens fee may vary from the equivalent of a few dollars for communal (also known as municipal) courses in many countries, up to that of several hundred dollars for public courses. Discounts on fees may be offered for players starting their round late (and on many courses, unusually early) in the day.

The Stroke play formula is an individual way of playing the game as you are competing against the par of the course. In the contrary, the match play rule will allow the player to approach the course in a more aggressive manner in order to win the hole against his opponent. It is not uncommon for beginners to spend several months practicing the very basics before playing their first ball on a course. Golfers play against the course, not each other directly, and hit a stationary object, not one put into motion by an opponent.

Club

Hosting the oldest tournament on the PGA TOUR is pressure enough, but with all eyes on the FedEx Cup Playoffs, Cog Hill golf & Country club becomes the center of the golf world. golf is a sport in which individual players or teams of players strike a ball into a hole using several types of clubs. golf is one of the few ball games that does not use a fixed, standardized playing field or area; defined in the Rules of golf as "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with the Rules. This word may, in turn, be derived from the Dutch word kolf, meaning "bat," or "club," and the Dutch sport of the same name.

The rules of golf are internationally standardized and are jointly governed by the Royal and Ancient golf club of St Andrews (R&A), which was founded 1754 and the United States golf Association (USGA). To hit the ball, the club is swung at the motionless ball on the ground (or wherever it has come to rest) from a side stance.

There are several possible causes of poor shots, such as poor alignment of the club, wrong direction of swing, and off-center hits where the clubhead rotates around the ball at impact. Many of these troubles are aggravated with the "longer" clubs and higher speed of swing.
